Jo Gough

About the Artist – Jo Gough
Cheshire-born artist Jo Gough has had a passion for painting for as long as she can remember. Growing up, she was rarely without a pencil or paintbrush in hand. Yet, despite her lifelong love of art, Jo initially followed a different path, building a 30-year career in IT for her local council.
In 2016, Jo took the leap she had always dreamed of, leaving the corporate world behind to pursue her passion and become a full-time artist. Entirely self-taught, she began developing her own distinctive style, guided by instinct, curiosity and an enduring love of colour.
Inspired by landmarks, nature, flowers, trees and hearts, Jo creates captivating artwork that brings together elements of realism and abstraction. Her paintings invite the viewer to look beyond the surface, discovering layers of texture, meaning and emotion within each piece.
Colour lies at the heart of Jo’s work. Bold, vibrant and full of life, her paintings radiate energy, warmth and positivity. Always pushing the boundaries of her creativity, she continually experiments with new techniques and approaches, using acrylics, blending, splattering and layering to build rich textures and create truly individual works of art.
Jo’s original paintings and prints are now collected internationally, and her distinctive style has attracted recognition from leading names in the art and publishing world. She has been signed by London-based greeting card publisher Portfolio Cards and The Art Group, one of the UK’s leading contemporary art publishers. She has also collaborated with Chester Zoo, creating a bespoke collection of animal-inspired artwork drawn from the zoo’s much-loved residents.
Working from her home studio near Chester, with her beloved dog Ted by her side, Jo continues to explore new ideas and possibilities through her art. Her mission remains simple: to create uplifting, colourful and meaningful artwork that brings joy, inspires connection and spreads a little positivity into the world.
